France 2006

These pictures were taken during my last two trips to France and Provence and are grouped according to area.
The 2006 trip to Paris is pictured below in the group of 2006 pictures.

Since there were many more pictures in 2007, the Paris pictures are in various groups however you can see the distinction by
looking for the 2007 links. This true also of the other 2007 pictures, you'll find a number of groups.

The pictures of Provence cover an area from Cannes in the west to Ventimiglia and Genoa in Italy to the east.
We were staying in an apartment at Villefranche, overlooking the Harbor and Cap Ferrat.

For those of you not familiar with the area, the climate is quite mild although Nice is only about 600 miles south of Paris. The mountains
that provide a backdrop to the Riviera also shield it from cold winter winds. It's said that Beaulieu is the warmest of the towns in winter.

There are three main highways running east from Nice beside the Motorway which connects with other similar highways at Genoa to fan out over
Italy and beyond. The three scenic roads are the Basse Corniche which runs pretty much along the immediate coast and there is the Moyenne Corniche which
parallels it at about 1,000 feel with spectacular views. Sometimes the two are fairly close together. The Grande Corniche runs along the mountains part way
inland and the views are wonderful in certain areas, you can even see northward toward the Alps as you approach La Turbie above Monaco.
