Driving into Nice along the Promenade des Anglais,
the Hotel Negresco coming up on the right and the beach to the left.
Walking into the Old City (Vieux Nice) along one of the narrow streets.
Through the narrow streets, past the shops and cafés
Cathédrale Ste-Réparate (1699)
in the Rue Cathédrale Ste-Réparate
Finally out into the sun and the Market in the Place Pierre Gautier
Just the corner of the Chapelle de la Miséricorde (1736) showing at the right of the picture.

Quite a crowd, friends meeting friends
just like at home.
Flowers everywhere. These roses and other flowers
are grown along the Mediterranean coast mostly in commercial greenhouses which
supply a lot of Europe with cut flowers. The greenhouses are visible all along
the coast from Nice to Genoa on south-facing hills.
It was a hot day so we bought a box of figs
and walked out to the beach to relax and cool off.
Incidentally, 2,00 is about $ 2.95 today.
Plenty of Saturday afternoon traffic
on the Promenade des Américains. This is the point at which
The Promenade des Anglais begins.
This is a delightful restaurant in Vieux Nice - Old Nice - that was suggested to us by a friend who lives in
Villefranche. Nadim Beyrouti, Patron and Host is also purveyer of the Olive Oils of Provence - Huiles de Provence - and has an enthusiasm
for them which is contageous. We were treated - as you will be - to samples of many different oils during our meal and
the meal itself was superb. We were welcomed like friends and left looking forward to many more visits!
