A sunny afternoon in Monte Carlo
October 16, 2007

A view of the skyline of Monte Carlo with part of the yacht basin
in the foreground. Barely visible in right center under the construction crane is the Opera House
where the Casino and the Hotel de Paris are located.

Another part of the skyline of mostly apartment and condo blocks
with the beginning of the mountains showing the background.

This view gives you an idea of how close the mountains are to the sea.

Joe getting slightly crazy at the sight of all those yachts.

More of the harbor and the mountains beyond.

Another view of the city.
It's amazing that the entire Principality of Monaco comprises only one square mile.

Dennis taking it all in.

More boats and the Royal Palace up on the bluff.
I was shooting more or less into the sun here, not the ideal arrangement.

Here, take two - they're small.

The water of the Mediterranean is so pristine
even in the towns and cities.

Wow!

I think I've found mine!

The Casino at Monte Carlo

The gardens in front of the Casino.

The park and fountains across from the Casino
the mountains in the distance.

All of the fountains viewed from the upper end of the gardens.

The entrance

The Hotel de Paris

The façade of the Opera House whih is
directly behind the Casino, facing the sea

Detail of the façade.

The plaza in front of the Opera House -
what a place to spend intermission!

Looking east from the Opera House

Looking eastward from the Opera House
along the sea front

The Hong Kong Orchid (Bauhinia blakeana). The blossoms are sterile and the tree will not seed itself, making it ideal for formal landscapes.
I saw only two trees, both about thirty feet high in the vicinity of the Casino and Opera House.

On to Italy and the Friday Market at Ventimiglia!
