Luxembourg Gardens

Luxembourg Palace was built for Marie de Médicis, widow of Henri IV. Construction began in 1615 and was finished in 1631.
Marie never occupied the Palace, however, because in 1632, amid much political intgrigue, she was
banished from France by Cardinal Richelieu. She died in exile in 1641, fruitlessly plotting Richelieu's overthrow.

Surrounding the Palais are beautiful formal gardens and paths, a small piece of the country in the middle of Paris.
From the time of Napoléon the Palais has housed French Senate and is not open to the public.
